Maggie Hinders is a painter who combines figurative and abstract imagery. Her works explore spatial and human relationships in the natural world.

She was born in Celina, Ohio, and studied painting and drawing at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, graduating with a B.A. in Painting.

After moving to New York in 1980, she studied at Hunter College, Parsons, the Art Students League, and the New York Studio School.

Until 2023, she was Senior Designer at Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. Among her design credits are books for several Ken Burns productions as well as biographies of Joan Mitchell, Alexander Calder, and Francis Bacon.

In 2005, on a month-long sabbatical from her design job, Maggie began painting regularly, building up a significant body of work.

Maggie is currently at work on a series of paintings engaging with ideas of change, isolation, connection, and community.
